Ben's Update

*Update* - Ben's been in the walking shoe for about a week now. He is managing to run in it, which I'm sure that's frowned upon. We go in on Thursday for an update to see if it's healing well.

We saw the orthopedic doctor this afternoon and we got some good news. They took more Xrays and we did find out that the break did not happen in a growth plate. If it had been any other toe, they would just buddy tape it to the neighboring toe and it would be fine. Since it's the big toe, or the "great toe" as they call it, they have to make sure that it knits together well, otherwise it will affect this walk and balance for life. They gave him a hard sole shoe that velcro's onto his foot and keeps his toe flat. We will go back in two weeks for a follow up Xray. If it's not healing well by then, we'll look at a cast. Other than that, we're watching for infection. It's slightly possible that the broken bone fragment might have come through the nail bed. But we're not sure that it did, so we'll just wait and see. Thank you all for your prayers and concern!
